This is the debut album of Elvis Presley, recorded in 1954, 1955 and 1956, the year that saw the beginning of the Elvis hype.
The album spent ten weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart in 1956, the first Rock 'n Roll album ever to make it to the top of the charts. It also has the distinction of being the first million-selling Rock 'n' Roll album.
The design of the sleeve was cited by The Clash for the front of their 1979 album London Calling.
